FOOD and ACCOMMODATION.

For participants from TEQIP mapped institutions, based upon request, accommodation can be arranged free of cost either in the Institute Guest House, in student hostels on campus or at hotels in Guwahati city. Depending on availability lodging may be extended to non TEQIP candidates on self payment basis. Please contact either of the coordinators and/or iitghss.teqip@gmail.com for further queries.

Interested candidates may plan their travel to Guwahati such that they should reach the respective accommodation venue latest by 26.05.2019, 5pm. They can plan their return trip on 29.05.2019. Guwahati enjoys a moderate climate even during summers. The average temperature during the summer months is around 29 Degrees Celsius. Expect aytime temperatures around 30 Degrees Celsius with slightly chilly evenings around 22-24 Degrees Celsius. Sunrise is around 5:00 AM and sunset is around 6:00 PM.

Campus food options include Cafe Coffee Day, Silver Dine Restaurant (+91 70860 48193), Subway, Baskin Robbins and other restaurants in the Food Court. Hostels have pay per meal options and hostel canteens are open till late at night.
REACHING CAMPUS.
​
Guwahati, which is considered to be the gateway to the North East of India, is well connected by air, rail and road with the rest of the country. There are direct air services from/to Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata with connectivity to all major cities in the country. Direct train services are available from/to all major metropolis and cities in the country. Indian Airlines, Jetlite, Jet Airways, Kingfisher, Indigo, Deccan Air and SpiceJet operate regular flights to and from Guwahati.

The beautiful IIT Guwahati campus is spread over a sprawling 785 hectares of greenery on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra. With hillocks, lakes and vast open spaces the campus provides an ideal setting for academic and scholarly work. The Institute can be reached by various means of transportation. It is around 20 km from the heart of the city and around 35 min. drive from the airport. To reach the IIT Guwahati campus from the airport, railway station or any other part of Guwahati city a variety of modes of transport, including Institute bus service, are available.

Prepaid taxis are available from the airport to the IITG campus. Uber and Ola also ply. Taxi fare is approximately 550-600 INR.

IIT Guwahati also has its own transportation facilities to ply to and fro from IIT Guwahati campus to the city which start from Hotel President, Near Institution of Engineers Building, Lakhtakia, Panbazar, Guwahati city. Hotel President is less than 1 km. away from Guwahati Railway Station.

Hired cars are also available from Guwahati city to IIT Guwahati campus. Taxi fare from Guwahati Railway station to IITG campus is around Rs. 500/-.​

WEATHER.
​
The weather of Guwahati is humid subtropical, with the annual mean temperature hovering around 24.2 °C. Summers arrive in April and end in May. Expect a high of 31-32 °C and a low of 24 °C. Evenings can be slightly chilly even in May, especially if it rains.
